EXODUS 3:18-20 • SHOW THE T0D0 LIST UNDERSTANDING THE TEXT • Sometimes, God is speaking to Moses. • Sometimes, Moses is speaking to the people. • Sometimes, the Narrator is speaking to us. DELIVERANCE Instructions for Passover Components of the First Passover Meal (12:1-1 1) • The LAMB and its blood (1 2:1-7) • BITTER herbs and UNLEAVENED bread (128) • HASTE (12:9-11) NONE OF THIS WOULD MAKE SENSE • IF FOUR DAYS TO PREPARE, WHY THE HASTE? THIS IS STRAIGHT UP SIMPLE OBEDIENCE // EXPLANATION IS 12:12-13 Explanation (12:12-13) God is in charge, and he says, "The LAMB will SAVE you!" SAVE YOU FROM DEATH & SAVE YOU FROM SLAVERY The Festival of Unleavened Bread (12:14-20) READ IT ALL / THEY CAN'T DO THIS! THEY ARE SLAVES! SOUNDS INCONVENIENT, BUT REALLY A JOY / DO NOTHING BUT MAKE EASY FOOD FOR SEVEN DAYS! God is in charge, and he says # "Be FREE !" MosestothePeople(12:21-28) IT'S ALL GOING DOWN TONIGHT! • TEACH YOUR CHILDREN God is in charge, and obedience need not be HARD . I.E. EVERY YEAR, FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS OF DECEMBER, YOU HAVE TO TAKE A VACATION! What Happened Passover Night (1 2:29-42) • All Egypt suffered, including PHARAOH • The Israelites PLUNDERED the Egyptians. • Many " 0 T H E R S joined them. • After 430 years, the Israelites left IN HASTE DID THEY NOT KNOW MOSES' INSTRUCTIONS? // DOCUMENTARY HYPOTHESIS? OR - WHAT GOD TOLD THEM TO DO ACTUALLY WAS REQUIRED OF THEM! God is in charge, and when He says it's time to move, its TIME TO MOVE ! PHARAOH'S RELUCTANCE OVERCOME • GOD MADE PROVISIONS • THEY WEREN'T READY! PROBLEM: What About These Foreigners? (1 2:43-51 ) THEY MUST BE CIRCUMCISED FIRST / SOUNDS ROUGH, BUT IT'S A FAMILY THING! God is in charge, and he accepts all who want to JOIN his FAMILY . CONCLUSION: Remember This Day (13:1-16) The Festival of Unleavened Bread GOD TOLD MOSES THIS ALREADY, BUT NOW MOSES TELLS THE PEOPLE. The Consecration of the Firstborn THIS IS NEW TO US God is in charge, and He has FIRST DIBS . THIS CAN BE INTIMIDATING, BUT... CONSIDER IT ALL TOGETHER. TAKE IT HOME EVERYTHING CENTERS ON THESE THINGS: GOD'S IN CHARGE, HE SAVES, WE OBEY, WE REMEMBER. NEVER FORGET how God SAVED YOU . On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus' disciples asked him, 'Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?" Mark 14:12 NIV Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch— as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 1 Corinthians 5:7 NIV IT DOES NO GOOD IF THE BLOOD'S NOT ON THE DOOR! IF YOU HAVE BEEN SAVED, COMMEMORATE IT YOURSELF AND SHARE IT WITH OTHERS.
